Who Should Attend?

The Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course is one day of training suitable for members of small to medium sized, low hazard workplaces, like offices. Or for individuals looking for a 1 day first aid course which will cover all of the essential life saving first aid techniques, including CPR and AED.

Joining Instructions

No previous first aid experience is required to attend. Course Timings 09:30 - 16:30 (course timings may differ slightly between venues). Full details of EFAW course timings are on the first aid course calendar and will be emailed to you in a pre-course information pack once your booking is confirmed.

Course Agenda

The Emergency First Aid at Work EFAW training course is designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle emergency situations in the workplace. The course covers a wide range of topics, including the role of the first aider, actions to be taken at the scene of an accident, CPR resuscitation, heart attacks, shock, bleeding, electrical injuries, burns, choking and asthma, and poisoning.

The first part of the course focuses on the role of the first aider, which includes understanding the legal requirements and responsibilities of a first aider, as well as the importance of remaining calm and acting quickly in an emergency situation. Participants will also learn how to assess the scene of an accident and identify potential hazards.

The second part of the course covers basic life support skills, such as CPR resuscitation and how to deal with heart attacks. Participants will also learn how to recognize and manage shock, as well as how to control bleeding and treat common injuries such as burns and electrical injuries. The course also includes practical demonstrations and hands-on practice to ensure participants are confident in their skills.

The final part of the course covers specific emergency situations, including choking and asthma, as well as poisoning. Participants will learn how to identify the signs and symptoms of these conditions and how to provide appropriate first aid. The course also includes information on how to use first aid equipment, such as defibrillators, and how to report and record incidents. By the end of the course, participants will have the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively respond to emergency situations in the workplace.

Nestled within the Tachbrook Estate, you can easily find us by entering through the passageway next to The Bessborough Centre, right by the Pimlico tube station exit. Alternatively, you can access the estate from Aylesford Street, opposite numbers 41 and 43. Once inside, head to Malcolmson House C, building number 14 on the estate map, where our training room awaits you. For your journey, we recommend using public transport. The nearest tube station is Pimlico, just a two-minute walk away, while Victoria and Vauxhall stations are both a short ten-minute stroll. Accreditation

The Emergency First Aid at Work EFAW training course is accredited and recognized by the Health and Safety Executive HSE in the UK. Successful candidates will receive a certificate that is valid for 3 years.

This course is assessed using tutor observation of practical competency. In order to pass the course attendees are required to take a full and active part in practising all of the procedures and protocols taught. This provides the necessary continual assessment opportunities. There are no written exam papers.. All first aid courses are assessed. In order to gain the first aid qualification candidates must meet the required assessment criteria. Full and active participation on the course is required to create the necessary continual assessment opportunities. If a candidate fails to meet the required assessment criteria they will not be awarded the qualification certificate.
